I haven’t told anyone, but when I was young, life lay before me – scary and wide open.
Summer came with its turn, and in the soft evening light I taught our daughters to swim.
When the sky turned red, it reminded me of an approaching storm,
And in the darkness, when a mosquito buzzed, I tried to remember its lonely melody
During an interview once, I was asked an unexpected question
One that made me think about storms and divination
I wished I could create a poem so vivid that it could capture the triumphant return of the kestrels from South Africa
In a final conversation with the therapist
We looked back at the difficult moments and the uncomfortable truths
Forgive me for the times I was too busy looking at the stars
And missed what was right in front of me
I am sorry for the turns I missed, and for the times I was too late
